David and Emily: wedding at St. Stephen's Episcopal

How did you and David meet?

We met through a friend of Dave’s from high school who was attending the same college that I was.

Who proposed? How did it happen?

Dave proposed on Oct.19, 2007.  Dave met me at my apartment after I had gotten off work, and he had gotten down from St. Cloud. We were in my bedroom trying to decide what to do for dinner. Dave said, ” I think we should go out to dinner.” I said, “Sounds good, where do you want to go?” Dave said, ” I don’t know, but I think we should celebrate.” I asked what we would be celebrating, and when I had turned around, Dave was on one knee, taking the ring out of his pocket!! I said YES!!"

David and Emily were married  at the picturesque St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Edina, and the reception was held at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis. It was a gorgeous day, well-thought-out. Here are some of Emily's thoughts about her experience:

What were your favorite and least favorite parts of the wedding planning process?  What, if anything, would you change?

One of our favorite parts was getting to spend some much time with our friends and family. It was wonderful having all the support that we did in making our day so special.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the cake-tasting process – YUM!

Least favorite thing was worrying about the details that really weren’t important.

Knowing what I now know, I would have worried less. Everything truly does work out wonderfully for the day, whatever happens. There are things that don’t go according to your plan, but in that moment, you have a choice- you can either let it ruin your day, or take it in stride and laugh about it in the end. I am so incredibly happy that I didn’t let anything really bother me that day, and now I have some good stories to laugh about!

Just remember – the day is about marrying the person that you love – everything else is just details!

How did you decide on the format of your ceremony, the traditions you chose to follow?

We both come from pretty traditional families, and we wanted to keep our ceremony traditional as well. Also, having it in the church we did was very important. It ended up to be a perfect ceremony where everyone felt comfortable and included.

And last... who was your favorite (non-photographic) vendor to work with?

Our DJ was phenomenal! We used Jukebox Express, New Brighton, MN. We picked them right away because they were at our best friends’ wedding and did a great job. Dave was our DJ for the night and was wonderful. They listen to what you want, and make the whole experience of working with them really easy.
